Allergies: Campers with food allergies should bring a note indicating whether they can participate in the following camp provided foods: Snack (see below) and Friday lunch (see below). In addition, campers will make ice cream (milk and sugar).
Backpack: Campers will need something to carry their stuff every day. Please label the backpack.
Camp T-shirt: Wear the camp T-shirt every day! T-Shirts will be distributed at Open House on Sunday, June 21 from 12 to 1:30 pm at Algonkian Park. The shirt will need to be washed every day. We do not cut or fringe our t-shirts at Camp Summer Magic.
Carpool: Morning drop off begins at 8:45. Afternoon pick up begins at 3:30. If your daughter is being picked up early or is riding home with someone different, we need a signed note in the morning.
Early Closing: In the event that we need to dismiss camp early due to weather or other unforeseen events, the camp emergency contact will contact the designated emergency contact for each unit. That person will then contact the parents of campers in that unit.
Emergency: Any emergency or anything that needs immediate attention goes through the Camp Director. If you need to get a hold of us at camp for any reason, you must call the Camp Director, Mama Kanga, at 703.517.3729.
Friday: Camp follows a different schedule on Friday. Campers exchange SWAPS, perform skits, participate in games and have a dance party on Friday. Camp provides a hotdog lunch on Friday. If your daughter does not eat meat, or has allergies, please send her lunch on Friday. On Friday, all campers will come home with a Unit photo and a Camp Sumer Magic 2017 patch.
Label Everything! Especially if you want it to come home.
Lunch: Campers will need to bring a lunch Monday-Thursday. A frozen water bottle will help keep the lunch cold and will serve as something to drink later in the day. Please don’t pack anything that can spoil easily. Camp will provide lunch on Friday.
Mail: Families are encouraged to send mail to campers. Mail may be dropped off during morning carpool. Label mail with your camper’s name and the name of her unit.
Medicine: Please bring any medicine needed during camp on Monday morning and it will be sent home with the camper on Friday. Medicine must be in a clearly marked bag with the camper’s name, clear instructions, and a signed medical authorization. All medicines will be given to the First Aider and will only be administered by the First Aider.
Names: Camp Staff are referred to by their camp names. The Camp Director is “Mama Kanga.”
Open House: Open House is scheduled for Sunday, June 25 from 12 noon to 1:30 pm in Shelter 1 at Algonkian Regional Park. Please come to learn about camp, pick up camper t-shirts and meet staff.
Phones: Please leave all cell phones/electronic gadgets (iPods) at home. Cell phones are not permitted to be used at camp. Camp is not responsible for lost phones or electronics.
Service Project Donations: Camp Summer Magic will collect food donations to benefit Loudoun Interfaith. Campers may bring donations to camp Monday through Thursday. Suggested items: Cereal, 100% Juice, Canned fruit, canned meats (tuna or chicken), Mac and Cheese, Chef Boyardee products, and Hearty Soups. Campers who donate food will receive a raffle ticket for a fun raffle on Friday.
Sit-Upon or Towel: A sit-upon or towel will provide extra cushion to sit on for lunch or down time.
Sneakers: Campers should wear sneakers every day, even on swimming day. NO open toed shoes, sandals or crocs.
Sunscreen & Bug Spray: Please apply sunscreen & bug spray (with deet) at home and bring both in case they need to reapply during the day. It can only be applied by the camper – adults and aides are not permitted to apply sunscreen or bug spray on any girl. Girls will be reminded throughout the day to re-apply.
S.W.A.P.S: SWAPS are a Girl Scout tradition, but optional. Campers make little trinkets and exchange them on Friday. Generally 50 pieces are plenty, but some campers bring more and some bring less. Swimming: Campers will be swimming at Volcano Island. Campers will need to wear swimsuits under their clothes on swim day. They must wear sneakers to camp. Please send a towel, sunscreen, water shoes to wear at the pool, underwear to change into, and a plastic bag for wet clothes. Camp will provide color coded swim caps for each camper. Swim caps are a requirement that allow Camp to immediately identify and track campers by unit at the pool. Swimming schedule is:

Ticks: Please check your camper daily for ticks!! Campers are outside all day and it is possible to get tick(s) during the week. Information may be found at http://www.loudoun.gov/index.aspx?NID=1273
Tie Dye: All campers will tie dye an item provided by camp. Instructions will come home or may be found at http://www.dharmatrading.com/tie-dye/instructions.html
Units: Campers are grouped in Units according to their grade during the 2016-2017 school year: Daisy, Brownie, Fly Up, Junior and Aides in Training (AITs - girls who just finished 6th & 7th grade spend half the day as campers and half the day as Aides). Each unit has a leader and at least one aide. Each unit has its own fun name.
Water: Please bring a re-fillable water bottle. Camp will have water stations for campers to re-fill throughout the day. Drinking water is very important as campers will be outside all week.
